Custom-made Linen Table Runner

And…I’m back after taking a break to focus on mask orders. As far as I know, I have finished making masks and am now on to other sewing projects.

But now to today’s post:

A few months ago, Marian Parsons, at www.missmustardseed.com, suggested sending happy mail during this time of staying at home and needing some additional encouragement. Within The Creative Exponent Mentoring Group, we signed up to send items and receive items made by members of our group.

Michael Wurm, Jr. of Inspired by Charm joined the group after the list was posted, and so I reached out to see if there was anything that I could make with linen that he could use. He chose a table runner from the items that I said were a possibility, and I asked him what his table size was. His table is only 30” wide and 72” long. He did not want the table runner to go off the ends of the table, so I decided to make it the size that would fit in the center of the table, leaving 10” spacing around the entire table runner, kind of like a frame.

He chose the raw, rustic linen in a natural color with a hemmed edge. However, I decided to make it a double thickness instead of hemming the edge, hoping that it would be a little sturdier. Because this was the first table runner that I ever made, I wasn’t sure how it would work. So I sewed two pieces of fabric together around three sides, turned it, and sewed the end. Then, I topstitched it to give it a little border around the edge.

And here, my friends, are the amazing and beautiful photos that he took of it and the way he styled it. I am deeply grateful to him for sharing these photos with me.

I love this dining room space with the light coming in from the windows, and the beautiful wooden furniture.

I hope that you are all doing well! I would love to hear from you. One of the hardest parts of blogging and sharing on social media is the feeling that I am sending words out into the void. I so miss sitting and having conversations with friends. So even though we can’t sit and chat over a cup of tea, I do appreciate hearing from you—you can leave a comment below or send me an email.

I will also be sharing pictures of happy mail that I received in the future…
